Finishing off

Been one of those good days where I get to finish a few bits off. I've packaged up the matrix mixer and even found 16 matching knobs out of one of my many scrap boxes of parts. I've also made a new reclining upright unit for my ghetto modular boards. It leans back around 25 degrees from vertical and provides a more ergonomic platform that also takes up much less of a footprint. It's again made from fibre board so my modules can be pinned to it.

I also posted the schematic for the matrix mixer at TSOL, but thought I'd post it here in case anyone's interested.....typically my schematic is a lofi affair eschewing CAD or other schematic software for a good old index card and pen!

So this is completely passive? Does it introduce a lot of noise? I'm thinking of building one from this site > http://sound.westhost.com/project129.htm but his PCBs are quite pricey and he is extremely old school about posting up the artwork or even component values for his stuff. :p Dude needs to get with it!

Anyways, does the mixer sound alright? I suppose it's only good for line level stuff as there are no preamps or anything.

Cheers!

Hi Ryan, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. To answer, yes this is completely passive, it sounds great and is superclean. but it does obviously subtract signal a bit by design. When i use it for audio level stuff i tend to throw the final output through a (proper) mixer channel to preamp it up a bit. I have also used this design as a wierd control voltage mixer rather than audio which is good fun and you wouldnt be able to do on an active design.

I can definatley recomend building a passive especially if you have the pots in stock.

Thanks for reading.
