The silicone I used is some rest from bathroom sealant silicone bought at the hardware store so it probably has some additives.
In my first tries I used vegetable oil as release agent which did not work. By now I did some further tests with Vaseline (aka petroleum jelly). Applying it with a finger first and using a q-tip in harder to reach corners of the mold worked very well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8020589647029137450.post-43017744678867788872021-06-17T05:25:09.794-07:002021-06-17T05:25:09.794-07:00No, I didn't use a release agent and found tha...No, I didn't use a release agent and found that the silicon I had with the drops of glycerin releases very easily from PLA. Perhaps your silicon has some other stuff mixed in it? I've found that some sealants that claim to be pure silicon often have antifungal/mould agents in them to stop them blackening in bathrooms etc.
concretedoghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16289364239177611355noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8020589647029137450.post-77062187051482040632021-06-17T04:35:28.342-07:002021-06-17T04:35:28.342-07:00Thanks for describing your process. I have been experimenting with hardware store silicone as well, but had trouble removing it from my PLA molds...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8020589647029137450.post-26187261026378419692021-04-07T02:08:36.989-07:002021-04-07T02:08:36.989-07:00If you add a drop of soap like YES this will act a...If you add a drop of soap like YES this will act as an accelerant toward curing, reducing the cure time to a few hours depending on thickness.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
